The Present and Past Perfect continuous Tense

In our daily life, we use the present and past perfect continuous tense everywhere so, you need to learn all types of tenses whether present perfect continuous or past perfect continuous tense so, I have explained all these tenses with many examples:

The Present Perfect Continuous Tense.

Instructions.

We use the present perfect continuous tense when we want to talk about an action that starts at a specific time in the past and it is still going on. We use ‘Since ‘ and ‘For’ to show the specific time of the past or the duration from the specific time till the present time. We have ‘have been ‘ and ‘has been ‘ are helping verbs while the present participle (1st form of verb+ing) is the main verb in this particular tense.

Examples.

I have been working since morning.

She has been washing clothes for three hours.

Q1.Make the present perfect continuous.

2.We....................(live)in Chitral for six months.

We have been living in Chitral for six months.

3. She ......................(go)to the cinema every weekend for years.

She has been going to the cinema every weekend for years.

4.You ...............(sleep)for twelve hours.

You have been sleeping for twelve hours.

5.They ..........(not/live)here for very long.

They have not been living here for very long.

6.He ..........(not/play) football for five years.

He has not been playing football for five years.

7.Maryam ..........(live)in Mardan since 1992.

Maryam has been living in Mardan since 1992.

8.How long ..........(learn/you) ENGLISH?

How long have you been learning English?

9.He ..........(work) in this company since 1990.

He has been working in this company since 1990.

10.I ..........(wait) for you since two o'clock.

I have been waiting for you since two o'clock.

11.I ........(play) for two hours.

I have been playing for two hours.

12.She ...........(read) for five hours.

She has been reading for five hours.

13.She ..........(write) a novel since 2022.

She has been writing a novel since 2022.

14.He ...........(sing) for two hours.

He has been singing for two hours.

15.They ..........(fight)for one hour.

They have been fighting for one hour.

The Past Perfect Continuous Tense.

Instructions.

The past perfect continuous tense (also known as the past perfect progressive tense) shows that an action that started in the past continued up until another time in the past. The past perfect continuous tense is constructed using had been + present participle (1st form of verb + ing).

Examples.

I had been reading a book for two hours.

She had been sleeping for ten hours when I woke her.

5. We ............(go) out for three years when we got married.

We had been going out for three years when we got married.

It had been snowing for three days.

7.He .........(watch) movies since morning.

He had been watching movies since morning.

8.I ...............(read) books for five months.
