Much have I travelled in the realms of gold
And many goodly states and kingdom seen;

Round many western islands have I been
Which bars in fealty to Apollo hold.
Oft of one wide expanse had I been told
That deep-browed Homer ruled as his demesne;

Yet did I never breathe its pure serene
Till I heard Chapman speak out loud and bold;

Then felt I like some watcher of the skies

When a new planet swims into his ken;
Or like stout Cortez when with eagle eyes
He started at the Pacific- and all his men

Looked at each other with a wild surmise

Silent, upon a peak in Darien.

On First Looking into Chapman's Homer by John Keats

This poem is written by John Keats .The poem “On First looking into Chapman’s Homer” by John Keats is a note in the appreciate of Homer,the Greek poet being unread of Greek language,Keats had not been able to read Homer .For the first time,he read the translation done by Chapman.In the first line the poet compares poetry with kingdom.He says that I have journeyed through many rich countries of literature.He want to say that he has read many great personalities of literature.He says that he has visited many western islands where the Greek god Apollo rules.While journing through so many kingdoms he say that I often heard about one state, where Homer rules who is a great emperor of literature.He say that I have no chance to visit his country and to live in its peaceful atmosphere I heard about a person,Chapman who spoke about Homer loudly and boldly.
In the last lines Keats explain that when, for the first time ,he read the translation of Chapman, he was wonder-struck at the great genius of Homer.His astonishment was same as that of an astronomer who discovers a new planet in the universe.He was astonish as the Spanish explorer Cortez and his men were astonished when they discovered the Pacific ocean.They stood there on the height in Darien looking towards each other without clean a word.

He was also astonished and dull with wonder when tit read,for the first time,Chapman’s translai of Homer.For the first time he discovered the great genius of Homer and his high place in the areas  of literature.
